On Monday September 24th, 19 high school students from Kitaskinaw School went on a field trip to Edmonton for a historical tour of the river valley. The walk began at the University of Alberta and finished at the Rossdale Memorial Site in downtown Edmonton. Along the way, students were provided teachings about traditional territory, treaties, significant landmarks in Edmonton’s River Valley, local history pre and post-colonization, and also Indigenous perspectives on land. We were joined by Dr. Dwayne Donald, Associate Professor, at the University of Alberta in Secondary Education who was our guide for the day.
